Message
from Matt Carroll:
My first solo exhibition took place last July at the El Dorado Nature Center in Long Beach,
California.
The exhibition, "Remaining Wetlands", is a portrayal of the rivers, estuaries,
and shorelines of Southern California, arguably both the region's most biologically important
and dramatically transformed places. The show is about the evolution of human attitudes
about wetlands and the manifestations of those attitudes. In two hundred years, wetlands
have been a food source; wasteland; destructive force; dumping grounds; oil, shipping,
recreation, and real estate resource; and wildlife refuge. Some critters do manage to continue
eking out a living from the tiny percent that remain.
To the right are the photographs included in the show. I hope you were able to come see
them!
